Web Resources : ICONS

Web Resources : ICONS

This is an updated list of the bookmarks I use to find icons for my projects, learn about iconography and everything else related to icons.

Rating them from most appreciated to most particular in their use cases. This is a quick access list to icon database websites.
Find your favorites, save them if you will but above all share it with people who you think would benefit from it!

Ikonate

ikonate

Ikonate is the one site I jump to when icons are on my project check list. It's a very intuitive and non intrusive website that lets you customise selected icons and download them in different versions for free.

Icons8

Icons8

https://icons8.com/

Icons8, although the logo looks like an old skateboard brand and the name says icons, is a very large library. Aisde icons they offer a range of programmes, photos, illustrations and more.
The downside is you have to pay to get SVG versions and offering too much variety leads to clutter and distraction

Intro to Icons

Intro to icons

https://introtoicons.com/?ref=designresourc.es

Although it's access requires a sign-up, there are some very VERY important principles every designer should know about icons, how to chose them, how to match them and how to design them.
This website will get you there.

Iconic.io

Iconic.io

https://ionic.io/ionicons

Iconic is a short but very simple gallery of icons and popular logos, with a choice of three options. You can download the code for the icons or the svg.
The downside is you'll have to change the colour yourself.

Shape

Shape

https://shape.so/browse

Shape is like ikonate but with a larger library, it's even more customiseable but it require a sgnup and login which is time consuming.

The Noun Project

https://thenounproject.com/

The Noun Project is atypical, it's the website for those very specific icons. Unfortunately there is no group edit, the best way to use this website is to either look for the one logo you need or simply type in the theme of your website and hope to find an icon pack that has everything you need.

Drawkit

drawkit

https://drawkit.com/free-icons

Drawkit is the community pack of icons you need. The selection feels approachable, specific and well crafted. Ideal for schools, restaurants, barbershops and more.
It also has a figma plugin and offers 3D icons but isn't entirely free.

Rating : $$$ (for the 3D icons)

Endless icons

https://endlessicons.com

Endless icons is an old resource, but if you want png icons to copy and paste, this is exactly what you need. Clutter free and simple to use.
All icons are black though.

Flaticon

Flaticon

https://www.flaticon.com/icons

Flaticon is for colourful png icons, for svg batch downloads you have need a premium membership.

GlyphSearch

glyphsearch

https://glyphsearch.com/

Glyphsearch is for developpers only. As you'll see in the copy options, this is an easy library search to help front end and full stack develloper access icon codes faster.

Simple Icons

Simple Icons is just perfect. SVG and hex downlaods fro all web brands. It's a must have for bookmark specialists like myself.

Font Awesome

Font Awesome

https://origin.fontawesome.com/v5.15/icons?d=gallery&p=2

Font Awesome has been around for along while. You can download the svg file but the icon is not easy to see and the licensing is strict.
A fair price to pay for an established brand and service. I personally rarely come to use it.

Rating : $$

That's all for the moment, I would recommend only sticking to two sites. I'll upadte the list soon.

Thank you for reading this and I do hope you share this post. The next article will be about colours, and it's way more intersting than you think.

Please share this article on social media or to people who might be interested, I'd be very greatful.
